Dear Mister/Miss WTF,

Although you might not know,

Although you might not visit my blog again,

You were very rude,
You typed "wtf" in my chatbox,

On the 6th of January, at 11:19:37 pm my local time,

Even if you do not like my blog,

You don't have to say vulgar things about it.

You think that I do not know who are you,

By not typing any name and remaining as "Guest",

But guess what?

I can find out who you are.

You are visitor number 5,780 to my blog,

Your IP Address is 78.150.143.#,

Your Internet Service Provider is Opal Telecom,

You are from the UK,

You are using Windows NT, so most probably you typed the vulgar message from your office,

Your office location is Lat/Long 54, -2,

Does this map look familiar to you?

Most offices use a fixed IP Address,

So I could trace which company you are from by checking with Opal Telecom,

Based on your IP Address and office location.

Although you might look down on me,

Although you might think that I am not good with computers,

But HEY, guess what, I do know certain things,

And I can make your life very miserable if I want to,

But I hope that next time you visit someone's blog,

Especially my bloggy friends' blogs,

BE CAREFUL WITH YOUR WORDS,

Because I am watching you.

God bless you,

Mister/Miss WTF.

Well done! A perfect reply to an obnoxious person! And a little education for me - I was never aware that we can track a poster so closely! (I presume this data is from the same source as your WEB site tracking program?)

And thanks for the kind comments on our new President. It's a hopeful sign that maybe now our country can repair its damaged reputation worldwide. Hopefully!

Thanks Traveling Chemist. People like that have no respect at all for others.

Yes, you are right. The data is from sitemeter.com that I subscribed for free. I never tried their premium (requires payment) services, but I find it suffice to use whatever free service they offer, e.g. blog visits tracking, details of visitors, etc. I highly recommend this blog tool.

My hubs had a guy try to hack into our computer several years ago. He sent him a very nasty letter with an image of his house from google earth. Needless to say we never had any more problems from him!

Fortunately for us hubs is very good at hardware and quite knowledgeable with most security software, so the guy could not get into our computer but our security measures did let us know he was trying.

Yeah man, how I wish to, Ron! But let's give the rascal a chance, shall we?

Wow! Inge', you are so blessed to have a husband who is good at computer stuffs :) You have no idea how many men are totally clueless when it comes to things like these. I had never come across a hacker, but I guess, there will be a first time. I hope I know what to do if I caught one trying to hack into my computer. Does your hubby have a blog or something that I can learn from?

John,
No he doesn't but I will try to pick his brain for you and see what info I can get. If you have a specific question just let me know. I will ask him exactly what he did in this situation and find out all the security measures we have on our pc so you can update yours if you want.

John,
you can contact my hubs through this email address. He said he would be glad to answer any questions for you.
lewis3316@bellsouth.net

This is what he said:

You have an incomplete ip address for this guy. you are missing the last 3 digits. so he could be anywhere. you need to download zone alarm free to your PERSONAL not office computer. This is a free program that will give you the complete ip address of anyone trying to hack into your computer.

OPAL Telecom- - This is the internet provider not his place of employment. This is the last hop site of his ip address not necessairly the beginning point.

Before you do this, make sure you have a GOOD anti virus and firewall (zone alarm is a good firewall). We use AVG as an anti virus program. You can download this for free at http://www.download.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition/3000-2239_4-10320142.html?part=dl-AVGAntiVir&subj=dl&tag=button

hope this helps.

It's interesting that people who are nasty on blogs always do so under the protection of "guest" or "anonymous". There should be another option ... "coward".

Thanks so much for the tips from you and your husband, Inge'!

Actually, I have the last 3 digits. I did not reveal it here on my blog for some reasons. Though I would like to get back at the fella, I still think he/she deserves a chance. And revealing the full IP Address exposes him/her to attacks from evil people who might be reading my blog.

I heard about Zone Alarm Pro and used it before. But unfortunately, my computer became very unstable, and the prompts that came up asking me if I should allow this or that process, became too annoying and sometimes, I think I made wrong decisions, blocking a process that is critical for the well-being of my computer. And vice versa, allowing a spyware or maybe a hacker to harm my computer. I thought that "if ever in doubt, block the process" would be ok, but I think I blocked many harmless processes, and eventually, I had to uninstall the program.

Yes, I do know that Opal is his/her Internet Service Provider (ISP), not his/her company. I did mention that in my post, probably you missed that out. With the IP Address and location, I could track which company he/she works in, by checking with the ISP. I also mentioned this in my post.

I'm using Kapersky, as I had read reviews stating that it is the best anti-virus in the world, and reputed to be better than AVG. The comparisons are HERE and HERE. Could you help me to ask your hubby what he thinks about Kapersky? I could email him, but... well, I'd never spoken to him, and... yes, I'm quite a shy person. Thanks Inge'! :) Really appreciate both of you.

Small Footprints, I couldn't agree with you more. How can that person be a GUEST if he/she is not welcome here? And yes, COWARD should be an option.

John,
Oops I did fail to remember that when talking with Doug. I will have him look at the comparisons you mentioned and get back to you when I have the results.

It was his idea for you to email him and he had me keep checking my email to see if you emailed me instead. No reason to be shy he gets these kinds of questions all the time.

I hope I did not offend you, I had Doug read your post and he just scanned it and noticed 3 numbers missing and the stuff about Opal. So he just thought maybe you didn't get all the digits and was going from there. I just typed what he dictated:)

Anyway, I will definitely talk with him about the anti virus and let you know!

No worries, Inge'... it takes a whole lot more than something like this to upset me ;)

I definitely appreciate all that you and your husband had taught me :) And it's really nice of him to offer to be bugged by a stranger. You mentioned that he gets these kinds of questions all the time... Is he a IT consultant or customer service for an IT firm or something?

John,
No he used to build computers in his spare time. Plus he studied a lot in school but never committed to any long term studying.

I did give him the name of the anti virus that you use but no response yet. Will keep you posted.

Wow! Building computers! That's awesome... I always had high respects for people who have that skill or knowledge to put all the computer parts together.

Ok, will wait for your update on the anti-virus program.
